The site characteristics in respect of hazards from earthquakes, flooding, industrial plants and transport routes, as well as other hazards, were examined in connection with the general licence applications from Ersatz Kernkraftwerk Beznau AG (EKKB AG), Ersatz Kernkraftwerk Mühleberg AG (EKKM AG) and Kernkraftwerk Niederamt AG (KKN AG).

The applicants presented their results in the form of safety reports. In addition, the basic features of the projects were described, information on project management, organisation and staffing was supplied, and the planned radiation protection measures were covered. The application documents also included conceptual information on safety for the plants, decommissioning and proof of radioactive waste management.

ENSI reviewed the application documents to ascertain their completeness, transparency and factual correctness, as well as their compliance with statutory and international requirements for a site assessment.
