Japan shows interest in deep repository research in Switzerland
Yesterday Japanese disposal experts visited the Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate (ENSI). They hope to benefit from Swiss experience in handling nuclear waste.
Keita Yamamoto, from the Japanese Radioactive Waste Management Funding and Research Center, RWMC, stated during the visit that their “visit to Switzerland is aimed at a detailed analysis of Swiss deep repository research”. Yamamoto is a member of a Japanese delegation that is seeking to drive forward an exchange of experience with Switzerland on the subject of nuclear waste management.
Within the last year the same delegation, comprising representatives of the RWMC and the Japanese Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA), has visited ENSI and the National Cooperative for the Disposal of Radioactive Waste, Nagra. Now the Japanese experts are taking up the discussions of the last year with specific questions about research in the area of waste management.
