The Director General of the Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate headed the group of international nuclear experts who inspected the Armenian Nuclear Regulatory Authority on behalf of the International Atomic Energy Agency. No fewer than 62 “recommendations” on improving supervisory practice were issued.
The Swiss Federal Council will select a new member of the ENSI Board by the end of this year for the next term of office. Following his two terms in office, Hans-Jürgen Pfeiffer will no longer be serving on the Board. For reasons of age he is ending his work in the strategic and internal supervisory body of the Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate ENSI.

The focus was on Periodic Safety Reviews (PSR) and on the backfitting obligation.
Four years after the reactor accident at Fukushima, the European countries have carried out a second joint review of their EU Stress Tests national action plans. As was already the case in 2013, the EU experts gave a positive assessment of the Swiss national action plan.

The Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate (ENSI) today submitted the fifth Swiss National Report in connection with the international Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management (the “Joint Convention”) to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
ENSI welcomed the international experts belonging to a working group of the Heads of European Radiological Protection Competent Authorities (HERCA). At the meeting in Brugg, almost 30 specialists discussed subjects including the implementation of the European radiation protection directive.
