Developments in the technical and legal basis of nuclear oversight

The Inspectorate awards and coordinates research projects in the field of regulatory safety research, which are designed to identify and to develop knowledge and expertise which can be made available for regulatory purposes. This research is geared to regulatory issues of both current relevance and those likely to be relevant in the foreseeable future.

At present, the Inspectorate is running national and international research projects in the four areas of «Reactor Safety», «Radiological Protection», «Transport and Waste Management» and «Human factors, Organization and Safety Culture». Chapter 1 of this report contains a brief description of these projects together with an evaluation of their importance to safety. Appendix A contains a detailed description of these projects.
