Dr. Marc Kenzelmann

Director General: Marc Kenzelmann studied biology and received his doctorate in 1999 from the University of Bern’s Institute of Infectious Diseases. After several years of research at the Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg, he moved to the Federal Office for Civil Protection in 2007. There he worked until 2013 as Head of the National NBC Protection Office in the Spiez Laboratory and until June 2020 as Vice Director General of the Oversight and Safety Department at the SFOE. He has been ENSI Director General since 1 July 2020.

Dr. Felix Altorfer

Director, Waste Disposal Division: Felix Altorfer studied physics at the ETH Zurich, and obtained his doctorate in 1994 at the Laboratory for Neutron Scattering at the ETH. After working in the US for four years at the NIST Center for Neutron Research, National Institute of Standards and Technology, he returned to Switzerland to undertake research at the Swiss Spallation Neutron Source (SINQ) of the PSI.

Tamara Garny

Director, Resources Division: Tamara Garny studied English and German Literature and Linguistics at the University of Zurich. Before joining ENSI she held a number of different positions with the Swiss Insurance Association (SVV) where she was an Executive Board member and Director of the Finance, HR and Administration Department since 2011.

Dr. Annette Ramezanian

Director, Nuclear Power Plants Division: Since January 2022, Annette Ramezanian has been a member of the ENSI Executive Board with responsibility for the Nuclear Power Plants Division. Annette Ramezanian studied physics at Université Grenoble Alpes, obtaining her doctorate in 1993.

Dr. Rosa Sardella

Director, Radiation Protection Division: Rosa Sardella studied nuclear engineering at the University of Bologna, where she also obtained her doctorate in 1997 in the Department of Mechanical, Nuclear, Aviation and Metallurgical Engineering. Since July 2016, Rosa Sardella has been Director of the Radiation Protection Division, as part of the ENSI Board.

Andreas Schefer

Chief of Staff: After his apprenticeship and employment as a laboratory assistant at Ciba-Geigy AG, Andreas Schefer studied law at the University of Basel. He received his degree in 2001. He was then employed at the University of Basel, in the Department of Justice of Basel-City and in the Department of Health and Social Affairs of the Canton of Aargau.

Dr. Ralph Schulz

Director, Safety Analyses Division: Ralph Schulz studied mechanical engineering at the RWTH Aachen University specialising in thermodynamics and obtained his doctorate at the end of 1997 from the Laboratory for Energy Systems at ETH Zurich. Following a period of three years with ALSTOM Power working on the development of combined cycle power plants, he joined the former HSK in 2000.
