Oskar Grözinger

Oskar Grözinger (born in 1946) studied physics at the University of Stuttgart and obtained his doctorate at Tübingen in 1974, since when he has held various official positions in the Federal German State of Baden-Württemberg, mainly in the ministry responsible for licensing and supervision under nuclear law.

From 1974 until 1981, he was Rapporteur for Research and Experimental Reactors; from 1981 until 1989, Rapporteur and Project Manager for the Neckarwestheim II Nuclear Power Plant; from 1990 until 1996, Head of the Air, Radiation Protection, Noise and Occupational Safety Section at the State Environmental Protection Institute in Karlsruhe; from 1996 until 2001, Head of the Waste Management and Decommissioning Department in the Ministry of the Environment; and from 2001 until 2005, Head of the Immission Protection Department and Deputy Head of the Industry and Business Department.

From 2005 until he retired at the end of 2011, Oskar Grözinger was Head of the Nuclear Energy Supervision and Radiation Protection Department in the Ministry of the Environment of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg. During his term as Head, the Federal State’s supervisory authority was inspected by international IAEA experts under the auspices of the Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) in 2008 and 2011, with good results.

Oskar Grözinger is an expert on nuclear energy and he has in-depth knowledge of reactor safety. He has many years of experience with official bodies in all areas of the monitoring of nuclear plants (construction, operation, decommissioning and dismantling). His many years of participation in the German-Swiss Committee for the Safety of Nuclear Installations (DSK) have made him very familiar with ENSI’s work and the general conditions for nuclear supervision in Switzerland.

He has been a member of the ENSI Board since 2012.
